Dialysis Facility Compare -- Learn more about a facility
It is our opinion that information shown on CMS'-Dialysis Facility Compare website does not provide sufficient information to determine if quality safe care is being delivered. We further believe that dialysis facilities should be mandated to post their most recent survey (inspection) report, and complaint investigations, in public view, similar to skilled nursing facilities. We have come to learn that many patients are not aware that these survey reports are public documents and that copies can be requested through the State Survey Agencies. The State Survey Agency information is posted in each dialysis facility. Patients, and their loved ones, should be able to ask questions about the survey reports without staff resistance.
We realize that reading a survey report can be alarming, especially depending upon the findings. However, this often results in patients becoming more educated about delivery of quality safe care. An educated, well-informed patient is a valuable member of the team which can result in preventing avoidable errors. The posting of dialysis facility reports in public view is the beginning of true transparency.
