RENAL CARE PARTNERS OF LOS ANGELES
formerly known as "Intensive Renal Care"
After recently reading a story about Renal Care Partners, that was aired by Channel 10 in Amarillo, Texas http://www.newschannel10.com/Global/story.asp?S=13790829, I decided to look at the Renal Care Partner facilities here in California, as well as other providers here in California who had not been timely surveyed.
According to the information provided to Propublica by CMS this facility had the following percentages and the last survey was conducted on November 7, 2001.
It is now over nine years and should we wonder the type of delivery of care that is being given. This statement is made based on the following data that was provided, as stated above.
Mortality vs Expected -- 2006-2009 - 23% (higher than expected)
5% above state average and 3% above national average
First Year Mortality 2006-2008 -- 39%
15% higher than state average and 12% higher than national
Hospital Admissions versus expected admission 2006-2008 - 47% (higher than expected)
Days in Hospital versus expected days in hospital 2006-2008 - 59% (higher than expected)
Septicemia (Percent hospitalized with a blood infection, 2006-2008) 22%
11% higher than state average and 12% higher than national average
Access-Related Infections - Percent with vascular access infection, 2008 - 35%
17% higher than state average and 15% higher than national average
According to the Dialysis Facility Report (DFR)
In 2006 - 19 deaths --- 68.4% of deaths were related to infections
In 2007 - 15 deaths -- 26.7% of deaths were related to infections
In 2008 22 deaths -- 9.1% due to infections
In 2009 14 deaths -- 35.7% due to infections
From 2006-2009 there were 70 deaths -- 38.6% due to infection
Compared to 16.4% for state and 16.7% for US
NOTE: The DFR stated “It might be useful to review infection control at this facility
This facility did better in anemia management than state or national percentage/average.
Being this facility has not been inspected in so many years, there is no way to determine compliance with effective infection control practices.
